Two Warrington food businesses were rated 1 and one rated 2 in inspections since mid-July. 112 scored the top 5. Every rating on the register, with dates.

Two Warrington food businesses were given a food hygiene rating of 1, meaning “major improvement necessary”, in inspections since mid-July. One more was rated 2. At the other end, 112 businesses scored the top rating of 5.

The figures come from the Food Standards Agency register for Warrington Borough Council, which we read on 25 September 2026. They cover every rating with an inspection date from 15 July to 10 September, the most recent date on the register. That is 135 ratings in all.

Rated 1 or 2

The register lists each of these at the rating below. Ratings are a snapshot of the day of inspection. A business can ask for a re-inspection once it has made improvements, can appeal within 21 days, and has a right to reply that is shown on its FSA page.

Business Address on the register Inspected Rating
The Shed Runcorn Road, WA4 6TU 21 July 1
Smith’s Fish Bar 1 Longshaw Street, WA5 0BU 5 August 1
Woyo Sushi Unit 105, 17 Old Market Place, WA1 1QB 29 July 2

The FSA scores three areas, and the lower the score the better. The register shows where each fell short:

  • The Shed: hygienic food handling scored 10 (“generally satisfactory”) and the premises scored 10, but management of food safety scored 20, “improvement necessary”.
  • Smith’s Fish Bar: food handling scored 15 (“improvement necessary”), premises 10, and management of food safety 20.
  • Woyo Sushi: food handling scored 15, premises 10 and management of food safety 10.

None of these three has a newer rating on the register.

Rated 3

Eight businesses were rated 3, “generally satisfactory”:

The latest 5s

The most recent inspections on the register, all in September, were rated 5. They include a run of school kitchens at the start of term:

  • Schools: Twiss Green Community Primary, Callands Primary, Oughtrington Community Primary, Ravenbank Community Primary, The Cobbs Infant School and Nursery, St Barnabus C E Primary, Winwick CE Primary, and TCAT Catering at Penketh South Community Primary
  • Nurseries and day centres: Blackbrook Nursery School and Pre-school, Woodside Barn Day Nursery, Gorse Covert Day Centre
  • Stockton Heath: Bombay Heath and The Coffee House on London Road, Lokal at 13 London Road, and Jenny Wren’s on West Avenue
  • Shops and small caterers: The Village Shop on Manchester Road, Little Shop (vantry) on Jackson Avenue, Charlies Kitchen, House of Cookies in Birchwood, Frost & Flour, Swirlss, One more bite, Cheshire Rustic Catering and Ho Mei Limited
  • Workplace canteen: the National Crime Agency on Longbarn Boulevard

Every September rating on the register is a 5. That is normal, not a sign that standards jumped. The FSA gives businesses rated 0 to 4 time to appeal or reply before the rating is published, so lower scores for September inspections are likely still to appear.

What it means for you

Every business’s current rating, and the three scores behind it, is on the FSA website. In England, showing the sticker in the window is voluntary, so the website is the place to check.

If you think a business is breaking food hygiene rules, you can report it to Warrington Borough Council’s food safety team through the FSA’s report a food problem service.
